Murchison Radio-astronomy Observatory (MRO) Connectivity

Short Project Description:

 

This project has linked research intensive facilities in Western Australia to the AREN, such as the Perth based Pawsey High Performance Computing Centre, thereby connecting the SKA Precursor radio-telescopes ASKAP (Australian Square Kilometre Array Pathfinder) and MWA (Murchison Widefield Array) at the Murchison Radio-astronomy Observatory (MRO) via Geraldton.

 Infrastructure:

 

Installation of DWDM active equipment on fibre between Perth and Geraldton, construction of two thick fibre optic cable links (approx. 12km) in Perth to connect the Pawsey Centre to the AREN backbone.  Capacity initially 5x10Gbps scalable to 80x100Gbps.
