Sunshine Backbone Network Tails

Short Project Description:

 

This project has upgraded and improved the redundancy and resiliency of optical fibre 'tail' connections from the regional backbone network between Brisbane and Cairns ("Sunshine Backbone") to university campuses and related centres of education.

 Infrastructure:

 

Construction of eight fibre optic tails (approx. 45km) in Mackay, Cairns, Townsville, Rockhampton, Gladstone, Brisbane and Sippy Downs with initial capacity of 10Gbps.

 Total Cost:

 

$2.5 million

 NRN Project EIF Contribution:

 

Up to $2.5 million

 Co-investment:

 

$200k (University of the Sunshine Coast)

Queensland Regional Network Organisation (QRNO), the CSIRO, Australian Institute of Marine Sciences (AIMS), Australian Catholic University and AARNet Pty Ltd.
